Nook
Minimal browser with a sidebar-first design
Nook is a macOS‑only web browser built on WebKit that emphasizes a minimal, sidebar‑first interface. It removes much of the typical browser clutter, presenting pages quickly and keeping navigation tools in a persistent sidebar to reduce visual noise. The design targets users who prefer a calm, distraction‑free browsing experience while still having full access to modern web standards.
Privacy is a core principle: the application does not collect or sell browsing data, and all settings are presented in an understandable, reversible manner. Nook supports both Chrome and Safari extensions, allowing users to retain familiar workflows without compromising the minimalist aesthetic. Optional, opt‑in AI features can provide chat assistance, summaries, and up‑to‑date web insights, but they are not required for normal operation.
The project is released under a permissive open‑source license, with its code publicly available on GitHub and a community‑driven roadmap. It is distributed as a simple drag‑and‑drop DMG for macOS, and the developers pledge to keep the software free and transparent indefinitely.
