Nugget is a cross‑platform video editor that emphasizes motion‑effect creation and flexible layer‑based compositing. It provides core editing tools such as cut editing, audio mixing, text insertion, and support for standard video and audio formats, while allowing unlimited layers so multiple effects can be applied to individual assets. The interface includes animation controls for position, scale, opacity, rotation, and keyframes, as well as chroma‑keying, blur, shape drawing, GIF export, and AI‑generated captions via Whisper.

The software targets creators who need a lightweight alternative to heavyweight motion‑graphics suites, offering fast rendering through FFmpeg and capabilities for 8K and 4K resolutions, screen and audio recording, and external extensions. Its multilingual support and open‑source MIT license make it accessible for a broad user base.

Installation requires Node.js, FFmpeg binaries placed in a local bin folder, and permission adjustments; the application can be launched with standard npm commands. A demo is available online, and the project is currently in a refactoring phase for version 0.4.x.
