Open eClass
Open eClass is an advanced e-learning solution that can enhance the teaching and learning process.
Open eClass is a self‑hosted, open‑source course management system that enables institutions to create, organize and deliver digital learning materials. It runs on a web server with PHP ≥ 8.1 and a MySQL or MariaDB database, and its source code is released under GPL‑2.0, allowing free use and customization. The platform supports responsive design for desktops, tablets and smartphones, and includes features such as course creation, automated exercises, learning paths, multimedia integration, e‑books, and tools for user and group management.
Target users are academic and training organizations that need an asynchronous e‑learning solution without subscription fees. It provides administrators with dashboards for attendance, performance statistics, surveys and backup, while learners can access content, submit assignments, and communicate via forums, chat or video conferencing. The system has been in continuous development since 2003 and is maintained by the Greek Academic Network (GUnet), which supplies documentation and ongoing updates. Its distinguishing aspects are the fully open‑source codebase, multilingual support, and the ability to be tailored to diverse educational requirements while remaining free to deploy.
