Open-Meteo

Weather API with open-data forecasts, historical and climate data from all major national weather services.

The service provides a JSON‑based weather API that delivers hourly forecasts for up to 16 days, as well as historical and climate data spanning 80 years. It aggregates open‑data outputs from major national weather services, using global models with 11 km resolution and regional models down to 1.5 km. Additional endpoints cover marine conditions, air quality, geocoding, elevation, and flood information, all without requiring an API key.

It is intended for developers, researchers, and hobbyists who need free, non‑commercial access to high‑resolution weather information for any location worldwide. The API is hosted on servers in Europe and North America with GeoDNS for low latency, and response times are typically under 10 ms. CORS support, absence of ads or tracking, and an open‑source codebase under AGPL‑3.0 enable self‑hosting via Docker or Ubuntu packages, allowing users to run their own instance and inspect the data processing pipeline.

Distinctive aspects include the combination of multiple national models, rapid hourly updates for Europe and North America, and full transparency of data sources and processing. The project encourages contributions, provides extensive documentation, and distributes its data under a CC BY 4.0 license for non‑commercial use.
