OpenRouteService
Route service with directions, isochrones, time-distance matrix, route optimization, etc.
OpenRouteService provides a set of geographic APIs built on a fork of GraphHopper and OpenStreetMap data. The core endpoints include directions for multiple transport modes, isochrone generation to show reachable areas, time‑distance matrices for one‑to‑many or many‑to‑many queries, coordinate snapping to the road network, and export of the underlying routing graph. Additional health and status endpoints are available when the software is self‑hosted.
The project targets developers, researchers, and organizations that need programmable routing, accessibility analysis, or logistics calculations without relying on proprietary services. It can be run locally via Docker or as a Java JAR, allowing integration into custom applications, Jupyter notebooks, GIS tools, or mobile SDKs in Python, R, JavaScript, and QGIS.
OpenRouteService is released under GPL‑3.0, is self‑hostable, and offers a free tier for public use. Its open‑source nature encourages community contributions and adaptation for humanitarian, disaster‑management, and smart‑mobility scenarios.
