OpenBCI
Connect to OpenBCI hardware, visualise and stream physiological data
OpenBCI supplies hardware and software that enable users to capture electrical signals from the body, including brain activity (EEG), muscle activity (EMG), and heart activity (EKG). The system consists of affordable, programmable bio‑sensing microcontrollers and 3D‑printable EEG headsets designed for research‑grade recordings. By connecting the hardware to a computer, users can acquire raw physiological data in real time.
The accompanying application runs on macOS and provides visualization tools that display the incoming signals as waveforms and spectra, allowing users to monitor and analyze the data as it is collected. It also supports streaming the sampled data to other software or devices, facilitating integration with custom analysis pipelines or external platforms.
OpenBCI targets researchers, developers, educators, and hobbyists who need an accessible way to record and work with bio‑electrical signals. Its open design and modular components make it suitable for experiments, prototyping, and educational demonstrations without requiring specialized laboratory equipment.
