Photoview

Simple and user-friendly photo gallery for personal servers. It is made for photographers and aims to provide an easy and fast way to navigate directories, with thousands of high resolution photos.

Photoview scans a directory on a self‑hosted server and builds a web‑based gallery that mirrors the filesystem hierarchy, turning each folder into an album. It generates thumbnails automatically, supports high‑resolution images, RAW conversion via Darktable, and video transcoding with ffmpeg, allowing fast browsing of large collections. EXIF data is extracted and displayed, and geotagged photos can be viewed on an interactive map.

The system supports multiple user accounts, each with private access to their own media, and can create public or password‑protected links for sharing individual items or whole albums. A companion iOS app (source available) provides mobile access to the same library, while the server runs on many platforms, including ARM devices such as Raspberry Pi.

Photoview is released under GPL‑3.0, requires no subscription, and is intended for photographers who want a lightweight, self‑hosted solution that keeps all media private while offering thumbnail previews, map integration, and basic sharing features.
