PrivyDrop

Simple and user-friendly, breakpoint-resumable peer-to-peer text, image, and file transfer tool based on WebRTC.

PrivyDrop enables direct, peer‑to‑peer sharing of text, images, and files between browsers using WebRTC, so data never passes through a central server. All transfers are end‑to‑end encrypted, and the tool supports unlimited file sizes through Chrome’s direct‑to‑disk streaming. Users can create a shared “room” and invite multiple receivers via a link or QR code; newcomers can join without interrupting ongoing transfers, and the interface shows real‑time progress and speed.

The application offers breakpoint‑resumable transfers, allowing large files to continue after network interruptions when the save directory is set. It also handles folders, rich‑text clipboard content, and works on both desktop and mobile browsers thanks to a responsive design. Internationalization includes English and Chinese, and navigation within the same tab preserves ongoing transfers and displayed content.

PrivyDrop is self‑hostable and distributed under the MIT license. It runs on a Docker‑based stack with Node.js, Express, Redis, and Socket.IO, and can be deployed with a single script for private LAN or public internet use, including automatic HTTPS via Let’s Encrypt. The project is open‑source, free, and does not require registration or subscription.
