RealDex lets users photograph any animal they encounter and instantly receive an identification from an on‑device AI that can recognize more than 10,000 species. The app runs a dual‑model system: a YOLO detector processes video at about 30 frames per second, while a BioCLIP model matches the visual input to a species database, returning the name, taxonomic family, and IUCN conservation status without needing an internet connection.

Each successful identification is recorded as a “catch” and added to a personal collection that can be browsed, filtered, and mapped geographically. Users can view detailed information about each species, track progress through streaks, experience points, and achievement badges, and keep a journal of their field records.

The tool is positioned as a blend of field guide and wildlife tracker, aimed at people who want to explore nature, learn about biodiversity, and contribute to conservation awareness while building a digital encyclopedia of the animals they encounter.
