Rectangle-app
Rectangle is a window management app based on Spectacle, written in Swift.
Rectangle provides keyboard‑driven and mouse‑driven window positioning on macOS 10.15 and later. Users can snap windows to screen halves, quarters, thirds, and other predefined zones by dragging to edges or invoking shortcuts, and can also move windows between displays or resize them to specific dimensions. The app supports a large set of actions accessible via URLs, enabling scripts or other tools to trigger window changes without activating the UI.
The utility is aimed at macOS users who want faster window layout management, especially those familiar with similar tools such as Spectacle. It offers an “ignore app” feature that temporarily disables Rectangle’s shortcuts for a foreground application, preventing conflicts with apps that use the same key bindings.
Implemented in Swift and open‑source, Rectangle extends Spectacle’s functionality with additional actions like height‑only maximization, edge‑only moves, and granular third‑ and fifth‑based placements. Installation is available through a downloadable DMG, the GitHub releases page, or Homebrew Cask.
