rename-cli
Rename files quickly.
rename-cli is a cross‑platform command‑line utility for renaming files, supporting single files and bulk operations. It accepts glob patterns to select files and offers an interactive mode with live previews, allowing users to see the resulting names before applying changes. The tool preserves original extensions unless a new one is explicitly provided, and it can handle complex naming through Nunjucks‑based templating.
The utility includes features such as variable replacement, regular‑expression search and replace, auto‑indexing for multiple files given and support for EXIF and ID3 tags. Users can sort files by name, creation date, modification date, or size, and they can control behavior with options for forcing overwrites, keeping both versions, simulating renames, or creating missing directories. A command history records past operations, enabling undo, re‑run, and the ability to mark favorites for quick reuse.
Installation is available via npm, Homebrew, or Chocolatey, and a binary can be downloaded from the project's releases page. The tool is stable and designed for users who need efficient, scriptable file renaming on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
