Scoot
Keyboard-driven cursor actuator
Scoot is a small macOS utility that lets users move the mouse pointer, click, and drag using only the keyboard. It offers two main navigation modes: element‑based, which leverages macOS accessibility APIs to locate UI elements such as buttons and links in the focused window, and grid‑based, which divides all connected screens into a uniform grid of cells. Each element or cell is assigned a unique character sequence, so typing that sequence instantly teleports the cursor to the target location.
The tool also supports standard macOS text‑editing shortcuts, as well as Emacs and vi keybindings, for fine‑grained cursor nudging. A “freestyle” mode provides the same text‑editing controls without displaying the grid or element overlays, allowing quick adjustments without visual assistance.
Scoot runs on macOS 11 and 12, is built with AppKit and Swift (with some legacy Carbon components), and integrates with existing accessibility features like Mouse Keys. It is intended as an augmentation to mouse or trackpad use rather than a full replacement.
