SlowQuitApps
An OS X app that adds a global delay of 1 second to the Cmd-Q shortcut.
SlowQuitApps is a macOS utility that inserts a one‑second hold requirement before the standard Command‑Q shortcut actually quits an application. When the delay is active, a small overlay appears at the screen’s center indicating the remaining time, and the shortcut is ignored until the user maintains the key combination for the full second. The program operates globally, affecting all apps unless they are explicitly exempted.
The tool is aimed at users who frequently trigger accidental quits, such as closing a browser tab or losing unsaved work, and who prefer a lightweight safeguard rather than remapping keys. It offers command‑line configuration via the `sqa` script when installed through Homebrew, allowing adjustment of the delay, management of whitelisted applications, inversion of the whitelist to act as a blacklist, and toggling of the overlay display.
SlowQuitApps is open‑source, released under the GNU GPL version 2 (or later), and is considered stable for macOS versions from Mavericks through Mojave. Pre‑built binaries are available from the project's GitHub releases page, and Homebrew cask installation provides automatic updates and command‑line access.
