Spectra
OpenSpec document management desktop app
Spectra is a desktop‑based toolkit that supports Spec‑Driven Development by providing a structured workflow for creating, tracking, and archiving specifications and related code changes. It stores specs and change history in organized files that can be read by AI coding assistants, allowing developers to preserve context across sessions and keep AI output aligned with defined design boundaries.
The application offers change‑management features such as proposal creation, artifact tracking, and full‑text search across specifications, scenarios, and version history. It also integrates with multiple AI services—including Claude, OpenAI Codex, and Google Gemini—by exposing skills and commands that let the AI read the specs and generate code that follows the documented plan.
Designed for macOS and Windows, Spectra runs without an account and can be pointed at any project folder, where it creates an OpenSpec directory to hold the documentation. Users follow a three‑step process—download, open a project, and start a change—to move from an initial idea through discussion, proposal, implementation, and final archival, keeping the development lifecycle organized and reproducible.
