Strongbox

Strongbox is an open‑source password manager for iOS, iPadOS and macOS that works with KeePass‑compatible databases and also supports Password Safe files. It stores credentials, secure notes, 2FA codes and even SSH keys, allowing users to edit notes in Markdown and generate duress PINs. The app integrates with Apple’s ecosystem, offering Face ID/Touch ID unlock, AutoFill, and an Apple Watch companion for on‑the‑go access.

Data can be kept locally or synchronized via any major cloud provider, WebDAV or SFTP, giving users full control over where their database resides. Strongbox employs modern cryptography, configurable key‑derivation functions, YubiKey hardware‑token support, and optional duress PINs to harden the vault against brute‑force attacks.

Targeted at power users, the client includes tools for auditing passwords—detecting duplicates, weak or common entries—and automated backups that simplify restoration.
