Turtl is a self‑hostable note‑taking and personal database application that stores bookmarks, passwords, files, shopping lists and other data in an encrypted vault. It uses high‑end cryptography so that only the owner and any explicitly granted collaborators can read the contents, and the core library has been audited for security. Users can organize information with tags, full‑text search and Markdown‑formatted notes, and sync across multiple devices.

The software supports sharing through “Spaces,” allowing teams or families to grant selective access without exposing the underlying data. Because the project is open source under GPL‑3.0, the code can be inspected and the application can be run on a private server, giving users full control over their information. Turtl is offered as a free tier with no subscription requirement and is considered stable for everyday use.
