Video Commander

The IDE for video engineers

Visit

The desktop application consolidates media‑engineering tasks into a single environment, allowing users to open local video files or remote URLs and instantly view container structures, codecs, streams, and technical metadata. It presents a hierarchical tree, raw hex dump, visual DAG, and frame‑level timing tables, giving engineers a comprehensive view of any media file without leaving the IDE.

Transcoding is handled through a graphical FFmpeg front‑end that supports software and hardware encoders such as VideoToolbox, NVENC, AMF, and QSV. Users can set resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and stream mapping, apply filter pipelines, and run batch jobs with preview encodes. A “Target VMAF” mode automatically selects the lowest‑bitrate CRF that meets a specified quality score, while live command previews show the exact FFmpeg invocation.

For delivery, the tool packages content into HLS, DASH, or combined streams, configuring multi‑rendition ladders, encryption, segment duration, and CDN‑ready folder structures. Quality analysis runs VMAF scoring across the timeline, producing per‑frame charts and summary statistics that can be exported, while an integrated player offers detailed playback metrics for both local and remote streams.
