Vim Inspired Electron Browser

Visit

Vieb is a web browser built on Electron that adopts Vim‑style key bindings and interaction patterns for navigating and managing web content. It presents a keyboard‑centric interface with commands such as buffer, split, Vexplore and Ctrl‑w bindings, allowing users to open multiple windows, split views and group tabs in containers that keep separate cookies and histories. The browser includes built‑in ad blocking, AMP protection, custom redirects and a configurable user‑agent, while offering a strict permission system for privacy‑focused control over navigator overrides, WebRTC policies and other web APIs.

The application targets users who prefer Vim’s modal editing workflow and want a fast, open‑source alternative for browsing. It supports custom themes, full interface scaling, page zoom, spellcheck and optional mouse use, and provides an offline help document accessible via F1. Configuration is handled through a Viebrc file that mirrors Vim’s options, enabling permanent settings such as showcmd, timeout, colorscheme, smartcase and others.

Security and privacy features include granular permission settings, cache and cookie management, download controls, and an ad‑blocker that uses easylist/easyprivacy by default with optional custom lists. Vieb runs on macOS, is released under a free license, and aims to deliver a secure, customizable browsing experience without external web requests.
