VoxQL

VoxQL adds Quick Look support for MagicaVoxel’s .vox files on macOS, allowing users to preview voxel models directly in Finder and other system dialogs. When a .vox file is selected, the generator renders a thumbnail image of the scene, giving a visual cue without opening MagicaVoxel. The tool is distributed as a Quick Look generator bundle that can be installed via Homebrew Cask or manually placed in the user or system Quick Look directory.

The software is intended for creators, designers, and developers who work with voxel assets and need fast visual identification of files in macOS. It integrates with the native Quick Look framework, so previews appear in standard file browsing contexts and can be refreshed with the qlmanage utility.

VoxQL is currently stable but notes a known issue with large scenes caused by an Apple SceneKit API bug, which may lead to timeouts. Future work includes direct scene data handling once the Apple bug is resolved and adding support for additional voxel formats such as .qb.
