VSCodium
Community-driven libre binaries of VS Code.
VSCodium provides pre‑compiled binaries of the Microsoft Visual Studio Code editor that are built directly from the upstream open‑source repository without Microsoft’s proprietary customizations. The binaries are distributed under the MIT license, have telemetry disabled, and retain all core editor functionality while omitting the non‑free components present in the official Microsoft‑branded product.
The project is aimed at developers who prefer a fully libre, of VS Code and want an easy installation path without compiling the source themselves. It targets users across Windows, macOS, and Linux who value open‑source licensing and privacy‑preserving defaults.
VSCodium maintains build scripts that clone the upstream repository, perform the standard build process, and publish the resulting binaries on GitHub releases. It also offers packages for a variety of system package managers—including Homebrew, WinGet, Chocolatey, Scoop, snap, and distribution‑specific formats—so users can install and update the editor through their preferred tooling.
