Welly
BBS client
Welly is a terminal‑based BBS client for macOS that connects to PTT and other boards via secure WebSocket (wss://) or traditional SSH and telnet protocols. It bundles a tiny telnet helper so the client works even on macOS versions where the native telnet command has been removed. The application offers a full‑screen view, Quick Look image support on High Sierra, and automatic updates through Homebrew.
Key productivity features include article archiving, comment tracking, and a blacklist that dims unwanted posts. Users can bookmark articles with a shortcut, see visual indicators for new comments or deletions, and receive periodic notifications when tracked articles receive new replies. Additional conveniences are one‑click opening of the web version of a post, automatic splitting of long comments, and a single‑key long‑screenshot function that captures multi‑page articles as JPEGs.
The client also supports auto‑login over wss://, integrates a built‑in telnet implementation, and stores its database in the user’s Library folder for easy migration between machines. All functionality is provided without storing passwords, and the source includes the usock2wsock component for WebSocket‑to‑telnet conversion.
