XLD
Tool to decode, convert and play various 'lossless' audio files.
XLD is a macOS utility that decodes, converts, and plays a range of lossless audio formats. It supports native decoding of FLAC, Monkey’s Audio, WavPack, TTA, Apple Lossless, TAK, Shorten (v3), AIFF, WAV and any formats handled by libsndfile, and can split tracks using embedded or external cue sheets during conversion. The program works on macOS 10.4 and later, running natively on Intel, PowerPC, and Apple Silicon hardware as a universal binary.
Conversion output includes WAV, AIFF, raw PCM, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless, FLAC, HE‑AAC, Wave64, WavPack and Opus, allowing users to rip CDs or create CD images with cue sheets in the desired format. XLD’s architecture separates the front‑end UI from the decoding back‑end, enabling plug‑in development for additional codecs.
The tool is open source, free to use, and considered stable for everyday audio handling on macOS. It provides both a graphical interface and a command‑line mode with options for cue‑sheet splitting, pre‑gap handling, and format selection.
