ArchiveBox

Create HTML & screenshot archives of sites from your bookmarks, browsing history, RSS feeds, or other sources (alternative to Wayback Machine).

ArchiveBox is a self‑hosted application that captures web content and stores it in a variety of durable formats such as HTML, PNG, PDF, TXT, JSON, WARC and SQLite. It can ingest URLs individually or import them in bulk from bookmarks, browsing history, RSS feeds, social‑media services, Pocket, Pinboard and other sources, then creates redundant snapshots that include rendered pages, screenshots, article text, media files and metadata. The tool provides a command‑line interface, a web UI, a REST API and webhooks, allowing integration with external workflows while keeping all data on infrastructure owned by the user.

The software targets individuals, researchers, journalists, lawyers and institutions that need to preserve public or private web material for long‑term access, evidence‑keeping or archival research. By storing content as ordinary files and databases, archives remain readable for decades without reliance on proprietary platforms. ArchiveBox is released under the MIT license, is free to use, and can be deployed via Docker, pip or other standard package managers, offering a flexible, open‑source alternative to external web‑archiving services.
