Open Archiver is a self‑hosted platform that archives emails from a wide range of sources—including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, PST files, IMAP servers, and common mailbox formats—store indexes them for permanent, tamper‑proof storage. It stores messages in the standard .eml format, applies deduplication, compression, and at‑rest encryption, and supports both local filesystem and S3‑compatible object storage backends.
The system offers full‑text search across email bodies and attachments using Meilisearch, and it can surface conversation threads and generate integrity reports that verify file hashes. Granular retention policies and legal‑hold capabilities enable compliance and eDiscovery workflows, while an immutable audit log records all access and administrative actions.
Built with a modern stack—SvelteKit frontend, Node.js/Express backend in TypeScript, PostgreSQL for metadata, Redis/BullMQ for job queuing, and Docker Compose for deployment—Open Archiver is free, open‑source (AGPL‑3.0) and designed for stable, long‑term use without subscription fees.
