Lock/unlock Apple computers using the proximity of a bluetooth low energy device
BLEUnlock is a menu‑bar utility for macOS that automatically locks and unlocks the computer based on the proximity of a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device such as an iPhone, Apple Watch, or any other BLE peripheral that broadcasts a static MAC address. When the selected device is nearby, the app unlocks the Mac without requiring a password; when the device moves out of range, it locks the screen after a configurable delay. The password is stored securely in the macOS Keychain.
The software runs on macOS 10.13 or later and requires Bluetooth access, Accessibility, and optionally Notification permissions. Users can customize signal‑strength thresholds for locking and unlocking, set timeouts, and enable optional actions such as waking the display, pausing media playback, or running custom scripts on lock/unlock events.
Installation is available via Homebrew Cask or manual download, and the app provides a simple interface for selecting the BLE device and adjusting preferences. It is released as a stable, free tool and does not require any additional iPhone application.
