Find Empty Folders
Finds empty folders
The utility scans a selected volume or folder on macOS and produces a list of directories that contain no user-visible items. It treats a folder as empty even when the only resident file is the system‑generated “.DS_Store”, a case that many other tools overlook. After the scan, each identified directory can be opened in Finder or moved directly to the Trash from the application’s interface.
The program is packaged as a modern Universal macOS app, supporting both Intel and Apple‑silicon architectures, and runs on macOS 10.10 and later. Earlier macOS versions (10.6–10.9) are available via a separate download. It is distributed for free and positioned as a lightweight, purpose‑built solution for users who need to clean up unused directory structures.
Typical users include system administrators, power users, and anyone looking to reclaim space or tidy a file system by removing directories that are effectively empty. The tool’s distinguishing feature is its explicit handling of hidden “.DS_Store” files when determining emptiness.
