Gerbera

UPnP Media Server, which allows you to stream your digital media throughout your home network and listen to/watch it on a variety of UPnP compatible devices.

Gerbera implements a UPnP media server that makes files stored on a host available to any UPnP‑compatible renderer on the local network. It scans directories for audio, video, image and other media, extracts metadata such as tags and thumbnails, and presents the collection through a tree‑based web interface where users can add, edit or remove items. The server can serve external URLs, generate video thumbnails on the fly, and invoke transcoding plugins or scripts to adapt media to the capabilities of the client device.

The software targets home users who want a self‑hosted solution for streaming personal media to TVs, game consoles, smartphones and tablets without relying on cloud services. It runs on Linux, BSD, macOS and other Unix‑like systems and supports a range of hardware architectures including x86, ARM and MIPS. Optional features such as last.fm scrobbing, MySQL/PostgreSQL back‑ends and JavaScript‑driven layout customization are available, while a default configuration provides a ready‑to‑use experience.

Gerbera is released under the GPL‑2.0 license, is free of subscription fees, and is actively maintained with stable releases, Docker images and documentation hosted online. Contributions are welcomed through pull requests and issue reporting.
