Gramps Web
Web app for collaborative genealogy, based on and interoperable with Gramps, the open source genealogy desktop application.
Gramps Web provides a web‑based interface for storing, editing, and querying family‑tree data that lives in a Gramps database. The system exposes a Python REST API that lets clients retrieve and modify genealogical records, and it includes a ready‑made frontend for collaborative research. Users can run the application on their own servers, keeping full control of the data and privacy.
The platform is designed for individuals, families, or small groups who want to work together on a shared genealogy project without relying on proprietary services. It can operate as a standalone web app or as a companion to the existing Gramps desktop program, allowing seamless data exchange between the two environments.
What distinguishes Gramps Web is its open‑source AGPL‑3.0 license, self‑hostable architecture, and the fact that the same API can be reused by other tools. The project supplies documentation for both end users and developers, and it is considered stable and free of subscription requirements.
