Cross-platform e-book/manga/comic/pdf server and web reader with user management, ratings and reviews, and metadata support.
Kavita is a self‑hosted digital library that serves EPUB, PDF, comic, manga and web‑toon files. It provides responsive, built‑in readers for each format, supporting single‑page, double‑page and web‑toon layouts, and offers OPDS feeds for external clients. The server scans filenames and ComicInfo.xml for metadata, enriches it with external sources, and enables full‑text search, filtering, collections, reading lists, ratings and reviews.
The platform includes role‑based user management with optional OIDC integration, allowing age‑based restrictions and granular permissions for shared libraries. Users can annotate EPUBs, highlight text, export notes, and customize the UI through themes, smart filters and custom fonts without any coding.
Kavita is released under GPL‑3.0, runs on Docker and other environments, and is actively maintained with community‑driven feature requests. It is free, open‑source, and intended for individuals or groups who want a private, feature‑rich reading server for books, comics and manga.
