Mail-in-a-Box
Turns any Ubuntu server into a fully functional mail server with one command.
Mail-in-a-Box converts a fresh Ubuntu 22.04 LTS 64‑bit machine into a complete mail server with a single command. It automatically installs and configures Postfix for SMTP, Dovecot for IMAP, Roundcube webmail, Nextcloud for CardDAV/CalDAV, and z‑push for Exchange ActiveSync, along with spam filtering, greylisting, and automatic TLS certificates from Let’s Encrypt. DNS services are provided by nsd4 and include SPF, DKIM, DMARC, DNSSEC, DANE TLSA, MTA‑STS, and SSHFP records, while system hardening is handled by ufw, fail2ban, and regular health monitoring.
The software targets individuals or small teams who want to run their own email service without deep expertise in server administration. Its web‑based control panel lets users add or remove mail accounts, aliases, and custom DNS records, configure backups, and view status checks. An API mirrors the panel’s actions, and the box can also serve static websites over HTTPS.
Mail-in-a-Box emphasizes ease of deployment, auditable automated configuration, and privacy‑focused decentralization, while deliberately avoiding extensive customisation or claims of unbreakable security. It is released under CC0‑1.0 and is considered stable for self‑hosted use.
