rucola
Manage your markdown notes.
Rucola is a terminal‑based manager for collections of interlinked markdown files that follows a Zettelkasten approach. It presents high‑level statistics about the whole note set and filtered subsets, lets users navigate links and backlinks, and supports small in‑app actions such as renaming or moving notes. Editing is delegated to the user’s preferred external text editor, while optional on‑the‑fly compilation to HTML—including LaTeX and code highlighting—can be displayed in any external viewer.
The tool targets users who maintain markdown‑based knowledge bases and prefer working entirely from a command‑line environment. It offers a lightweight alternative to graphical note‑taking applications, avoiding GUIs or Electron and thus remaining responsive even on older hardware. Customizable terminal themes adapt to existing color schemes, and the interface integrates smoothly with familiar editors like vim, emacs, or helix.
Rucola is distributed as a stable Rust crate, available through common package managers and as a binary for Linux distributions. It is released under the GPL‑3.0 license.
