Shelf provides a self‑hosted, open‑source database for physical assets such as equipment, tools, vehicles and inventory. Users can create and print QR tags that are scanned with any phone to view details, check out items, or report issues. The system records custody, location (including hierarchical and GPS data), and supports bookings with calendar integration to avoid double‑bookings. Custom fields, categories, tags, and kits allow flexible metadata and grouping, while full‑text search, filters and saved presets make retrieval easy. Activity logs and reminders support maintenance, calibration and warranty tracking.

The platform is designed for teams that need role‑based access and multi‑workspace isolation, with owner, admin, base and self‑service roles that grant granular permissions. Bulk actions are possible through an integrated QR/barcode scanner, and assets can be imported or exported via CSV for reporting. An audit trail records notes and changes on each item.

Shelf runs on a TypeScript/React stack with PostgreSQL managed through Supabase, and is released under the AGPL‑3.0 license. It is free to use without subscription, can be deployed privately, and is positioned for organizations that manage thousands of assets across locations.
