Sidebar

Sidebar replaces the macOS Dock with a highly configurable vertical bar that can be placed on any screen in a multi‑display setup. Each screen can have its own Sidebar layout, and the bar reserves space so that application windows never overlap it, keeping the desktop tidy. Hovering an app shows previews of its windows, and a built‑in start menu provides quick access to all installed applications.

The bar includes integrated controls for multimedia playback, system sound, calendar, and trash, and it supports custom icons, date and time formats, and a clear‑view mode that hides all icons with a single click. Users can group apps and folders into stacks, pin frequently used items, and enable auto‑hiding or live previews. Window management features such as snapping, visual switching, and saving/restoring positions are built in, and shortcuts can be customized for individual apps or specific slots.

Sidebar is distributed via Homebrew, runs on macOS 13.0 Ventura or newer, and receives continuous updates without version jumps, offering a stable, modern alternative to the default Dock.
