Ziit
The Swiss army knife of code time tracking (alternative to WakaTime).
Ziit is an open‑source, self‑hostable system for tracking coding activity. It records details such as project name, programming language, editor, file, git branch, operating system and the amount of time spent, then presents the data in a clean, minimal dashboard inspired by Plausible Analytics. All information is stored on the user’s own server, keeping privacy under full control.
The tool integrates directly with popular development environments, offering extensions for VS Code and JetBrains IDEs that send activity data to a chosen Ziit instance. Users can log in via GitHub or email/password, filter statistics by time range, import historical data from WakaTime or WakAPI, and display coding‑time badges in project READMEs. Public pages provide overall instance statistics and a leaderboard of top contributors.
Ziit is released under the AGPL‑3.0 license, provides a free tier without subscription requirements, and is positioned as a stable alternative to commercial code‑time trackers. Its architecture relies on Bun and TimescaleDB, and deployment instructions are supplied for both private instances and a shared public service.
