DevilutionX

DevilutionX is a port of the original Diablo and its Hellfire expansion that enables the game to run on modern operating systems, including macOS, Linux, and Windows. It bundles engine improvements, bug fixes, and optional quality‑of‑life settings such as configurable health and experience bars and widescreen support, while preserving the core gameplay experience.

The software requires the original game data files (DIABDAT.MPQ and, for Hellfire, the additional MPQ archives) which can be obtained from an existing installation, a GoG purchase, or the shareware spawn.mpq. Users download a pre‑built release or build from source, place the data files in the application folder, and launch the game. Documentation and a manual detail configuration options and installation steps.

DevilutionX also provides modding support, offering the full source code and tools for creating modifications. The project encourages community contributions through coding, documentation, testing, and discussion on its Discord server, and it supplies test builds for developers to evaluate ongoing changes.
