Macast
DLNA Media Renderer
Macast is a menu‑bar application that turns a computer into a DLNA media renderer using the mpv player. Once launched, a small icon appears in the system bar, allowing users to push videos, pictures, or music from any DLNA‑compatible client—such as a mobile phone—to the host machine for playback. The program runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux (via Xorg) and can be installed through package managers, direct downloads, or source builds.
Advanced users can extend functionality with the Macast‑plugins repository, which adds support for third‑party players like IINA and PotPlayer and permits custom shortcut keys or mpv configuration. Developers can also create additional plugins or custom renderers, for example to download media while playing, using the provided tutorials and examples.
The project is stable, open‑source, and includes documentation for installation, usage, and troubleshooting, as well as links to the UPnP device architecture specifications that underlie its DLNA capabilities.
