MoePeek

Translation tool with text selection, OCR, clipboard, and manual input support.

Source

MoePeek is a native macOS menu‑bar utility that translates text without leaving the current application. Users can select text in any window and invoke a floating panel to see an instant translation, capture a screen region for OCR‑based translation, translate clipboard contents, or manually enter text. The tool supports a range of built‑in services—including Google, DeepL, Bing, Apple’s on‑device translation, and several LLM‑backed options—along with automatic language detection for fourteen languages and text‑to‑speech playback.

The application is written in Swift 6 with minimal dependencies, keeping the binary around five megabytes and memory usage low for long sessions. It employs a three‑tier text‑grabbing strategy (Accessibility API, AppleScript, clipboard fallback) and offers fully customizable keyboard shortcuts. An auto‑updater powered by Sparkle handles releases, and integration with PopClip is available via an optional extension.

MoePeek is open source under the AGPL‑3.0 license, targeting users who need a lightweight, privacy‑friendly translator on macOS 14 or newer. It is positioned as a personal‑use tool rather than a polished, production‑grade solution, and it encourages community feedback through its GitHub repository.
