Mobster

Mobster is a desktop timer designed for pair and mob programming sessions. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, providing a simple interface to manage timed rotations among drivers and navigators. The application tracks the current participants in a file that can be referenced by scripts, allowing developers to set the author field of Git commits to the active mob members.

The tool includes an optional “RPG Mode,” a gamified practice environment that teaches mobbing techniques such as the driver‑navigator pattern. This mode is a port of an existing mob programming RPG and offers a visual illustration of role transitions during a session.

Built with Elm and Electron, Mobster offers automatic updates and a configurable transparency setting for Windows 10. The repository supplies a sample shell script for committing with the active mobster list, and contributors can build the app using Git and Node.js.
